All - I've done it again. Bad news, especially if the ride were today (98 deg in Poway at noon), is Scripps Poway Pkwy is scheduled for Sunday. Good news is high is "supposed" to be "only" 89 deg on Sunday. That still may be too hot. Anyway, put your thinking caps on. The ride start will still be Woodland Park, but we do have a number of alternatives to keep it cool starting there.
-Karl
We could head toward Poway and then decide on the way. Here's a ride that links up with the 56 bike path if it's too hot. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1594851
That would be good. The easternmost point is only 15 mi into the ride (9:15-9:30) and coming up the coast will be different than Saturday's ride. High in Ramona on Sunday is also 91 deg. Also, some of those who may want a few extra miles to get ready for White Mtn could go farther north on the coast before heading back to San Marcos.
Thanks, Jim!
I work in poway and 89 (with the humidity) is still pretty warm. I like Jim's suggestion (since I would be doing some extra miles).
Let's put a stake in the sand, then. We WILL do Jim's ride. He will have route slips, too!
The following riders are no longer eligible for wearing the new NCCC pink cycling kit!
Phil - Breaking Rule #4 Section C: Riding directly on tire casing.
Karl - Being locked out of house after riding home on a broken spoke.
;D
OK, Nerius, I ask for reconsideration... On the way home from my broken spoke, I was first stung by a bee :o. Then, my wife had the house locked. Got a key from our neighbors. All tolled, I'd say it was a good 45 min diversion to get a new wheel back on my bike, brakes and derailleurs adjusted. On my futile attempt to somehow catch you guys, I saw you returning south down Sunset to Vulcan in a trance. I waved and yelled "Nerius" and you never blinked - were you thinking about work? OR...? I was hoping to do some extra miles with Evelyn and Anthony so I went to O'side, took Jim's new Mesa route to College (instead of the bike path scramble), did N. River, Sleeping Indian, and back Camino del Rey, Champagne, etc. Never did see anyone else but Lance who honked at me on Sleeping Indian with his Dogma on his rear rack (he lives in Fallbrook) - startled the hell out of me until I realized it was a friendly beep, wasn't it? I was very surprised at the relatively cool temps on Champagne with a super strong breeze (aka headwind) - it was hotter at the finish at Woodland Park. I'd like some extra credit for a fine 90 miler - but I had enough fun that I don't need a pink kit anyway.
OK Karl, you have redeemed yourself by riding the extra miles. ;)
I saw you, Karl, when you rode by my house. I kind of waved from my recliner. It was a mixture of a wave and a pointing of the remote.
I was tempted to knock. Probably would have gone no further...
Evelyn suggested that we ring his door bell and ride off......
Ringing and riding is not against the law Karl ..... What would Kant do? What would Jung do? Are there universal stop sign archetypes out there? Better yet what would Freud do? Perhaps some of us are stuck in the anal stage....
Anywho I'd like to thank Steve John and Anthony for watching me fix my rear tire Sunday .... I'm a big girl now! Before you know it I'll be running my own Bike 101 class in the parkinglot .....:)
Also wanted to let Nerius know Steph and I made it to the top of Palamar in 47 minutes.... Just sayin:)
Oh, well in that case we need to get your some green socks!
