Starts a 7:00 sharp at Kit Carson Park in Escondido. Here's the route with regroups and PIE noted in the cue sheet. All are welcome - several bailout options are available for Sean and any others! http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1708028 (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1708028) See you there!
I like the October selection of Sat/Sun "long" rides, but would it make sense to add info to the ride page regarding the Oct 21 Pie Ride?
Note that 3iq is listed as the primary ride for Sunday Roadies ride on Oct 21. If you want to ride shorter, join us at the start and you can improvise.
October 28th scheduled San Clemente ride bumped to a later date? Grr... :-(
Any changes to rides requires a good 15 minutes to update private route histories, as well as the website. If you are volunteering to be both Sunday ride leader and web master, Nerius, be my guest.
OK I get the message. "Karl's way or the highway! No more complaining!" :-)
Nerius, I'm not being a dictator, just trying to minimize effort. Since you're a software guy, the easiest way for me to slip in 3iq and update all the info and the website at once was with an "insert sort." Thus, Dana Pt. was simply pushed to the first Sunday in November.
Or on the 21st you could join me at a more sensible hour (0830) at Swami’s for a Siren Poetry ride. (Sounds better than an Inert Osprey ride, which leaves a rather disturbing image). After tackling that big hill on the coast we could do the big hill in LaJolla. Maybe even going up Via Capri to show what we’re made of. But probably not. But I will try my damndest to find something free. Nothing off the top of my head right now, but I’m sure I’ll find something.

This is good news and now it makes perfect sense now, Karl! Thanks for the info!
Funny how dictators are always in denial. I for one, don't mind living in the dual dictatorship of Saturday Jim and Sunday Karl as I find you both benevolent. I often pause in thought about how benevolent you both are that I imagine I'm cycling in an absolute monarchy and I'm simply an awestruck subject just happy to get a word with you sir and thankful to be in your presence.
I shall bow to you tomorrow sir and follow along......so I don't get lost and be an expendable, simpleton, peasant.
Your loyal subject, Titanium man
Dogonit Rats!
I would love to do this ride and suffer with you but I'm stuck here in Baltimore until mid November.
I did bring my bike via Southwest but it now has more rattles than Anthony Scozzari's hip and it makes a popping noise when I hit a bump that is exactly the same sound my knee makes when I squat.
I miss you all. Have a blast on the ride. I know I can count on Nerius to eat a slice of pie for me.
Best,
Wade
Just a friendly reminder that we are meeting at the South end of Kit Carson park (It's a fairly large park with multiple parking areas). There is a Park And Ride if you enter the park at the southernmost entrance, immediately on the left. That's where we're meeting.
Bill correct me if I'm wrong on this.
The sub-menu under Roadies for "Ride start directions" has a Kit Carson Google Maps link with a good visual of said parking lot if you haven't started there before.
Looks like the weather will be cooperative with a cooling trend toward the weekend! I have edited the route map to include water stops in Ramona and at Lake Henshaw, and indicated on the cue sheet planned regroups. My goal is to allow the mountain goats to zoom up the hills but keep together(ish) on the flats and trafficky sections - on 78 going up to Santa Ysabel and 79 before Mesa Grande.
If you're not up for both slices, there are plenty of shorter/less strenuous bailouts - back down 78 from Ramona, avoid Mesa Grande on 79/76, or skip the climb up Palomar East Grade by staying on 76 to Rincon. Everyone is welcome, and there is no shame in opting for a shorter route - just ask Sean!
I'll be at the Saturday long ride if you've got any questions.
Bill

Wow Bill, I just realized something. This 3iq ride has little resemblance to the pie ride. They're like, totally different. Pie ride has one big hard part, and the 3iq ride has many little hard parts spread apart. Should be really interesting!
I've posted my photos from today's epic fun on ridewithgps.com at http://ridewithgps.com/trips/986427 (http://ridewithgps.com/trips/986427). What a day.
Thanks for the photos and the ride, Bill (not to mention pulling my ass along Lake Wohlford). It looks like you just need to order bad weather for future pie rides. Had a blast.

Thanks for the ride Bill, Ursula, Jeff, and Karl.
My socks never got wet! ;-)
