Title: Thank you North County Cycle Club
Post by: Tom Emerick on September 20, 2012, 09:18:46 AM
I just want to thank all the riders that were riding with me and assisted on Saturday September 1st when I had my accident.  It is very comforting to know that when something does happen that fellow riders will step up to the plate and help out. Also, for all the many get well wishes and prayers from NCCC members, they have been greatly appreciated.

I was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday Sept 18th and I’m now at home rehabbing.  I hope to get back on the bike and riding with the club in 8 -10 weeks.  Until then be safe out there.

Again, thank you all,   Tom

Great to see you're well enough to be posting here, Tom! We have missed you on the rides and are glad you plan to be back riding when you recover.
Best wishes for a strong recovery - Karl

Tom, this is great news.  I  noticed that you had started riding a lot harder lately.  I was really sad when I saw you had gone down.  I arrived on the scene about 5 minutes after the accident (was calling Karl who had a flat) and was really impressed at what was going on.  The ambulance was on the way, there was a guy with a car that stayed at the intersection blocking traffic to keep the lane closed (he was there even after the Fire Department left), everyone was doing all the right things.  Wow, what a great bunch of people we have in our club!  The Paramedics did a great job and even the Carlsbad Policeman took your bike home.  Take it step by step and do everything they tell you to do.  As a veteran of the long ride you are greatly missed.

Tom, I’m very glad your doing better. You are right. The NCCC riders really show what their made of when someone needs help. I personally know this from experience (Last year’s November Thanksgiving ride)… The time will pass quickly. Get healthy.

Tom,

I am so glad you are out of the hospital and on your road to recovery. Awesome news. I was on the ride the day you took your spill. You did not look so good as you were loaded into the ambulance and we were all worried. Then as we heard reports of your time in the hospital it seemed to get worse. But it sounds like things are better and you have the right attitude to get back on the bike. I hope to see you soon.

And you had lots of helpers that day. I remembers a few. First the motorists. I think the first car at the accident, a SUV with a gentlemen in it asked what he could do and we suggested he park he car to protect you, a nurse stopped by, then a guy who gave us an umbrella to help keep you in some level of shade and he drove off selflessly. Plus countless others offering help. Someone, I think the nurse gave us some towels to help clean you up.

The cop was awesome and as Karl pointed out offered to get your bike home. Which was good for you as the alternative was to toss it in the bushes and drive back for it.

The paramedics were awesome, the fire guys were right on.. It takes an army to help a fallen cyclist.

Club members.....Diana was all over the situation, Evelyn was right in there, Karl was calling your wife. Traffic was being directed, your bike was being collected along with your helmet and sunglasses. It was quite the operation to watch.

I am glad you are better.
