Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that this week end is one of the biggest Off Road gatherings of the year. It's the 51st run of the Tierra Del Sol Four Wheel Desert Safari. Not to put a damper on the bike ride, but Sunday is when over 15,000 off roaders will be evacuating the desert, and most likely lot's of RV's and trailers will be heading back up all the mountain passes.

It might be a good idea to postpone the ride 1 week.
Thanks,
wayno :-)
Thanks, Wayno
That is information I didn't have. In the interests of safety, and also to make the ride a bit more pleasant as we all hate the "hwy 79 sprint to avoid RVs" stretch, I will move this ride to March 10. Weather looks GREAT for this weekend, and I hope it stays good for March 10.
Sean has proposed a nice alternate route for March 3. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2179075
Karl
Sounds great.
The new route for this week looks really interesting. I've never been on Nate Harrison or North Mesa.
Sean, who did you copy it from? :D
With the change of the route, what time will the ride start this Sunday?
Wayne - this is a regular Sunday ride, so the normal 8:30 start applies. Hope you can make it! All this will be reflected on the Roadies page when I update it tonight.

Wade - this is not the "full Monty" version of Nate - just a nibble of how it starts before we angle off to Rincon Ranch. You'll like it. If the Sunday riders want to ride MTB sometime, we can do the 10mile @ 10% "complete Nate" all the way to Boucher Lookout.
Hi Karl,
I don't plan on riding Sunday and I imagine you know this but you guys will have an EARLY start, the time change for day light savings is Saturday night. Go to bed early because you'll be losing an hour. :)
Anthony
Thanks, Anthony - Although I hate to lose an hour in the spring, the extra hour of daylight is much welcomed. I am still calling this a LIGHTS REQUIRED ride, though. For those who don't have lights, I highly recommend the latest Cygolite offereings.

They make a good rear flasher, too: http://www.modernbike.com/itemgroup.asp?IGPK=2126183646
Even if you're pretty sure you can make it back by dark, we'll be riding as a group, and you never know what might happen (e.g. last year...)
Karl, not sure of your intended routing, but may I offer this as a possibility?

I defer, as always, to you, but enjoyed the ride we did from Santa Ysabel to Borrego a while ago, so I tacked on Highland Valley and Old 78 on the outbound and Highway 76 to Rincon on the return. Will miss Mesa Grande on the way back, but you can't have it all!
Bill,
I actually like the idea as the Ranchita out and back is a bit of a bore. This solves that, is the same mileage and elevation (arguably more) and combines the Dudley's ride. Nerius and Anthony wanted to do BOTH Dudley's and the Borrego Death Ride. You've solved their dilemma and my boredom. Let's go for it. I actually hate to change ride starts, but Kit Carson makes more sense, and I'll update the website later this evening. I'll try to email the Sunday "regulars," but I'd appreciate help in spreading the word.
TERRIFIC and Thanks - Karl
