.......as those who rode this past Saturday now, I'm having back surgery next week and therefore a substitute ride leader is needed for ~2-3 months. Of course if someone wants to take over as ride leader that is fine with me as well.
Minimally I'd like folks to volunteer for specific weeks in February and March and recommend rides you'd like to lead that week. Deciding the rides for the month is really what I like the least. Of course if anyone is willing to lead the whole time I'm out then we can just get together (or you can email me/Karl) the routes you want to do for the month. I don't mind volunteering for the club when I get to participate in the rides and although I may be sitting around not able to do much, I'm not going to put in the effort for the rides if I don't get support when I'm out, sorry.
So feel free to contact me through replying here so if folks are doing just some weeks others will know. Alternatively, email me at gscozzison@yahoo.com or call/text me at 760-535-8127. Here is a link to my routes on RWGPS which I think you can see if you're a member or I can email folks a spreadsheet I use to log the weekly rides. The website won't let me upload an excel spreadsheet or I'd include it.

Lastly, I wasn't able to do the ride this past Saturday because my back/leg/foot surprised me and gave me trouble. I'll at least show up to the start if I can't ride with the route slips.
Thanks,
Anthony Scozzari
If we platoon, sign me up for one ride per month. Because I do all the Sunday rides, I don't want all long rides to be "Karl" rides and neither does anyone else, especially since I rotate through the same 12-15 rides every 3 months and am not as creative as the great routes you've put together, Anthony. I'm hoping we can get 3 or 4 others to platoon with me. It's easy - we used to have Sunday guest leaders to this "back in the day." I'm happy to help as long as I, too, am in town.
We can all do this for the next 3 months to help Anthony out, so that he'll want to come back with his new bionic back that will put the hurt in all of us!

I'd be willing to attempt ride leading on an experimental (or "trial") basis.
A little bit of constructive advice on how to take on this role in the most effective manner would also be welcome.
For example, I don't think I would be comfortable leading a ride on roads I haven't ridden, especially if they're "back routes", e.g. really interesting kind of stuff that we've been doing recently on Saturdays.
Thanks Karl and Nerius, just a few more volunteers and we'll have my surgery/recovery handled.
Karl, what weeks and what routes would you like to do?
Nerius, it isn't too difficult, just start the ride and introduce it, remind folks to mind the laws of the road and be safe. Make the route slips for folks who want them and bring them to the start. If rain is forecast, or raining, update folks on the chat board whether the ride is on or not. Introduce yourself to new people and watch out for them so they don't get lost or dropped without knowing how to get back if they're just too slow to keep up. Get folks up and moving at the stop for the 2nd half of the ride. I don't know what roads you know or don't know so I'd need you to pick a route from my list on RWGPS that you know or set up a ride and depending on when, I can help you map it for folks. So....if still willing to help, same as with Karl, what weeks and what routes?
March 14th is on a Saturday so that seems to me (if I were healthy enough) that an epic Pie ride should be done. If we stay with the "Saturday rides start from OCRR then here is the route, 112 miles and 9300' ....but we'll have to see who wants to lead that week.

Thanks,

Anthony,
I just added xls and xlsx as valid file extensions for forum post attachments. Please attach the spreadsheet so that I can select a few of your routes. I nominate Wild Bill or Nerius for the March 14 pie ( or 3iq) ride as I'll be in CT that weekend.
Karl
Thanks Karl. Admittedly the early route links from when I started might be broken since I was copying sometimes from Jim's RWGPS files instead of copying to my routes first....and like this Saturday's ride I goofed with the description and the actual route. :) I'd say 90% are right and if a link is broken I know where the route is....but I digress...here is the file.
Anthony
OK - I can cover Jan 31 this month: Del Dios, Rancho Bernardo, Up Highland Vly, Dn Bandy Canyon (66 mi, 5,000’)
Feb 21 - Circle R-Dn Couser-Up Rice-Grn Canyon Canyon (59 mi, 4,300’)
Mar 28 - OCRR-Pomerado-56 Path-Coast-Cannon (60 mi, 3,400’)
I may be out of town Mar 28, but we can cross that bridge later.
Karl
I'd consider it an honor to take the helm for a pi-day pie ride in Anthony's honor!
Too clever, Bill. March 14=3/14...
Thanks Bill! If I'm not able to ride that far I'll sag or certainly meet you at the stops for Pie. :)
Ok we need some more long riders to step up please. Presuming I'm out through end of March that is 10 weeks (that presumes I ride this week) and only 4 are covered.
1/24 - open but route listed
1/31 - Karl
2/7 - open and need route
2/14 - open and need route
2/21 - Karl
2/28 - open and need route
3/7 - open and need route
3/14 - Bill T
3/21 - open and need route
3/28 - Karl
Help out the club your fellow riders and me please.
Anthony
Anthony - The Boulevard Road Race (http://ucsdcycling.org/races/boulevard/) is Jan 31 and I will have a Cat 1 rider staying with me that weekend. My plans now require me to be in Campo, so please switch me from Jan 31 to Jan 24 for this month. - Karl
Let me offer one more incentive for people to volunteer. The ride leaders share all route slips on a private cloud server. I will be happy to print these out each week (if you use a ride on Anthony's spreadsheet) and get them to the ride.
-Karl
I'm free to volunteer up to and including March 14th. I will look more into routes soon, perhaps this evening. You can mark me down.
On today's long ride we bumped into "wild" Bill T., who was riding with Ranchos. It seemed that he wasn't too keen on leading the Pi ride on 3/14/15. I would like to lead this ride if that is alright.
There was also some discussion regarding start time and start location for Pi ride. The people I spoke to seemed to all agree that start location of OCRR isn't necessary, even considering that 3/14 is a Saturday. The reasoning behind this, I think, is that our desired start time for this ride would be well before 8:30, and so someone reading the ride profiles would already need to pay particular attention to an earlier start time to be able to make this ride. So, it seems that also adding a note about altered start location would not dissuade people from attending the Pi ride. OCRR versus other start location is a difference of at least 15 miles for the ride, I think.
Suggested start time is 7:30 and suggested start location is Kit Carson Park (Park & Ride, as usual), for a forwards Pi ride (up South Grade) on 3/14/15, if I am to be elected as Pi ride leader.
Ah, but the math majors would like to start the pi ride just a little later, say 9:26, 53.59... sec a.m. ;)
2/7: El Camino, RSF, Del Dios, Elfin, Twin Oaks climb (52 mi, 3600’)
2/14: Pendleton up to San Clemente (Bring ID) (82 miles, 3900 ft)
2/7 is good candidate for voluntary Double Peak side-route which would come at end of ride.
All- I will lead any/all dates not covered as of this writing. We need to suitcase this so Anthony can comfortably step back an focus on his work and surgery preps.
Anthony- it would seem Nerius has 2/7 and 2/14 under control. Didn't see any correspondence from Ursula in the above string, but I will happily co-lead any/all dates. Please let me know which dates still require a route--I'll deconflict from those already chosen just to keep things lively.
WRT the Pie ride, we'll sort out the details. I'm fine with the standard OCRR start, that said somebody must have the Kit Carson route should the majority want to start from there. If Bill and Nerius want to work it together that is great. Given the length and challenging nature of the ride, it might be best to share responsibility. I figure we'll need some sag support as you indicated, and it is a nice outing for our non-cycling friends/spouses--I mean who would miss out on an opportunity to meet a mess of smelly men for a slice of pie and coffee?
Karl- thanks for volunteering to print up and deliver the ride slips, that will ensure no stress for the substitutes.
Anthony- thanks again for shepherding your cycling flock every Saturday, we all really appreciate it and wish you a speedy recovery!
Sean Cunneen
A great leader leads more by example and less by telling others what to do.
Thanks to all. I believe weeks I'm out are all covered now unless I out into April.
As far as the 3/14 ride - I won't be there so you folks can decide where/when to start from. Nerius - thanks for leading this that day.
Here is what we have so far while I'm out...
1/24 â€" Karl â€" route is listed
1/31 - Ursula - route is listed
2/7 â€" Nerius - El Camino, RSF, Del Dios, Elfin, Twin Oaks climb (52 mi, 3600’) â€" Double peak bonus as optional

Nerius â€" look at the route closely, you’ll need to adjust the way back due to road construction.
2/21 - Karl - Circle R-Dn Couser-Up Rice-Grn Canyon Canyon (59 mi, 4,300’)
http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4848246
2/28 â€" Sean C - need route
3/7 â€" Ursula C need route
3/14 - Nerius â€" Since it is 3.14 a Pie ride will be done. whether OCRR or Kit Carson park start and time TBD. Daylight savings starts the week prior so you should be okay in the evening.
3/21 â€" Sean C need route
3/28 â€" Karl - OCRR-Pomerado-56 Path-Coast-Cannon (60 mi, 3,400’)
http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3614870
Thanks,
Anthony
Karl- Here are my inputs for upcoming rides....
2/28 â€" Sean C - De Luz Classic, OCRR start. Anthony's files only had a Bonsall start--is there an OCRR version? Alternatively, the Nate Harrison via Wolford route would serve.....
3/21 â€" Sean C Twin Oaks-Melrose-Lilac-Miller-Wolford
Thanks, Sean - It looks like Anthony will be covered once we get a note from Ursula for March 7. I'll pull together a classic De Luz starting from OCRR for you. I've got some in my catalog and they might not be on RWGPS, but easily imported.

Frank. You think you're funny. And you are! Haha. There's a special place for you in a certain place in the afterlife which might be on the warm side!!! Hehehe😀
Frank, well what if the blind are leading the sighted.
Last week, by popular demand and due to windy conditions, we bypassed the 395 climb in favor of Live Oak and Green Canyon. Now I note that the original route I volunteered to lead on Feb 21 is just about that same route. Boring... So, on Feb 21, I plan to switch it to the 395 climb, and to change up the beginning a bit, let's do Old Castle instead of Circle R. I'll map it out and make the change on the Roadies page in the next couple days.
Sorry about that - Karl
