Here is the forecast for Mt Laguna tomorrow

Weather was sunny and great once above the low clouds at Pine Valley level. So we had sun and mild weather most of the day, except the very beginning and end, and the lower Hwy 79 stretch - the only place with moisture on the road. Ironically, it was colder in Pine Valley than at the Mt Laguna summit all day.
For those who had to put up with the annoying noise from my hub, and for me who had to put up with a chain skip once per revolution up Pine Creek, the mystery is solved. The pawl body on the freehub cracked and broke apart which created an uneven seating of the freehub on its seat. I'll blame the 16% on Mt. Baldy for breaking my freehub! See photo. bummer - gotta switch back to my Dura Ace wheel for awhile. At least this explains the strange hum/grind while coasting and why this was more of an annoyance than a completely dangerous failure.

A more spectacular view of the freehub with the axle and pawl spring removed... :'(
Karl,
Wow, that is some breakage. Glad the bike kept moving and you finished. Time for a new bike!!
