Title: Highland valley this weekend???
Post by: Anthony Scozzari on January 08, 2016, 10:25:40 AM
Hi All,

NCCC Long riders are scheduled to ride from 67 to Archie Moore and come down Highland valley to pomerado and I wondered if it will be passable this weekend.  I know the bottom is low and water can sit there for long times but I believe some of the up and down portions stay wet too.  I don't live near any of those areas and considering how much rain and mud we got this week, any guidance would be great as to whether we can still ride the route or whether I need to modify it or flip to a different route completely.  Thanks!

Pomerado, Scripps poway parkway to 67, Mussey, Down Highland.

I would imagine that highland will be fine. There might be some puddles by the tree nursery, but they should be avoidable. Ysabel creek, on the phone other hand, would be wet!

I think highland valley should be fine with one day without rain. Might be safer to just go down SPP since that road is pretty straight and you can see what is coming up unlike highland where you are turning corners at high speeds. I would be more concerned with the bike path that links Rancho Bernardo to Escondido. That area can accumulate a lot of dirt when it rains and a road bike may not be able to cross it without tipping over. It is passable, just might have to go cyclocross style on it.
