Title: AMGEN Tour of California Presentation - April 9th, 2016
Post by: Margareth Demery on March 08, 2016, 01:14:33 AM
Hello All,

This is an invitation from the Blind Stokers Club (BSC) along with partners Anywhere Bicycle Repair (ABR) for an AMGEN Tour of California (ATOC) presentation by the Stage 1 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) as part of their bike club outreach program.  A way to also meet other bicycle clubs and have a get together.

This is the plan:

Details:

The April 9 BSC Ride becomes a Ride + Lunch Presentation, and the venue for both is changed to ABR, 7292 Opportunity Rd, Suite A, SD 92111.
The BSC ride group meets around 8:00a and will roll out after pre-ride meeting at 8:30a.
NCCC will announce their ride plans separately.
Motorists are recommended to use parking behind the building.

Host Stu Clott will open the ABR shop early (for pre-ride restroom facilities).  After the ride, the shop and bike museum will house lunch and the presentation, with free beer on tap.  The LOC presentation will start around 12:30p, and include Q&A afterwards.

I was thinking that our NCCC ride leaders can plan a ride from 7292 Opportunity Rd, Suite A, San Diego, CA 92111 to possibly Coronado, Point Loma, Old Town, Mission Bay, Balboa Park,  for instance and then meet back to the ride start by 12:30 pm.

Give me a shout if you would like to participate in this.  I am planning on organizing the Cruiser Ride to partake in this departing at 8:30 am or possibly 9:00 am.

Any questions, let me know - Thanks,
~Peg

This could be fun. To get buy-in from Regular and Long riders, we ought to search Ride With GPS for routes in that more southerly location. We do have a couple of Long rides which come close to that - most notably Sean Brenan's (in)famous Qualcomm route that takes us out to Mission Trails and other areas somewhat foreign to NCCC. Of course, the TOC is the primary draw, but it would be great to still get a good ride in. People should note that the ABR start location is not too onerous. From my house, it's 14.7 miles and 20 minutes, which is a shorter trip to the ride start than when I drive to OCRR.

Thanks for arranging - Karl

(minor note: some of us, me included will be at the L'Eroica event in Paso Robles that weekend)

Appropriately, these routes approach the Stage 1 Fiinish (mile 11.5) and Stage 1 Start (mile 12.3) areas.
