Title: Has anybody done the Alpine Challenge?
Post by: Noel Llopis on April 11, 2008, 10:51:33 AM
I was considering doing it this year, but I'd be interested in hearing other people's experiences with it

Hi Noel, I rode Alpine last year and it was indeed a challenge...not undoable, but something you should prepare for in advance. Two words best describe the day: heat and hills. It was bright sunshine at the start and we climbed over 7100 feet over the 71 plus mile course; alot of it out of the saddle. Temps were in the mid 70's but it felt warmer and bone dry. No wind that day but in Alpine there's always a possibility. The good side; my fitness increased and it was a scenic course with good support. Below is a link to my gps download, if you can access it you'll find more stats by clicking on the dashboed items to the left.

Thanks for the comments, Joe. Good to hear you enjoyed it last year.

The hills I can deal with. It's supposed to be a warmup to the Breathless Agony century the weekend after. But the temperatures is something I'm definitely have to watch out for. I'll wait until the week of the event to register to make sure we're not hit by another Santa Ana spell. But if they remain in the 70s, I'll probably do it.

Thanks!
