Comrades!
A few reminders about the ride on Saturday July 23. The break stop is at the top of Torrey Pines Park road climb. You pass the adobe house thing on your left, then turn right into the first parking lot. There is a sign that says "Beach Trail". Attached is a photo should there be any confusion. We always have people miss it. There will probably be hikers so be aware and call out when you need to pass people that are blocking the road and not paying attention.
Secondly, when entering the park, YOU MUST do so lawfully and safely. Often times, and especially in the summer, there is traffic backed up entering the parking lot. Many riders will be tempted to jump the queue and ride in the exit lane, into oncoming traffic, so as to not have to wait. We will not be doing this. Any riders that I see doing this will be scolded and reported to the board. If there is a long queue, riders can dismount, use the cross walk and pedestrian access to the parking lot that is just after turning off Coast Highway entering the lot, and then ride through the parking lot and turn onto the park road. Again, a photo is attached to illustrate my point.
See you on the road.
Robert
Be careful going down North Torrey Pines. My dad hit something in the road last weekend that caused him to crash. Might force him to make a cycling retirement.
Sorry to hear that Will. There are some significant bumps forming on parts of the decent especially near the bottom. Hope he gets better soon.
The crash happened right at the end. People on his Strava Fly-Bys were also complaining about the bumps so that is probably the culprit. I haven't ridden that bike lane in quite sometime. My last few times down I rode in the right lane.
I typically take the lane on the descent, depending on traffic, because there are always ruts or debris. I did see the large bump that I'm told is the cause of a few crashes recently. It is almost at the bottom and has been painted bright orange. It is right on the fog line.
Sorry to hear this-have you tried calling the city (street maintenance) to report his accident?
