Comrades!
Beginning in November, I will be leading a Sunday ride. This will not replace the current Sunday ride, nor is it intended to compete. It will be an alternative ride similar to the regular Saturday group, 40 to 50 miles. Initially, it will be once a month. So what's different? This new Sunday will have a few alternate start locations, mainly in East County, such as Alpine and Pine Valley. The routes will not be easy, but they will not destroy you. They will be very hilly, on rural country roads that may have little to no conveniences. Navigation will be simple, and some routes will not have complex route slips.
My goal is take riders out to different areas of San Diego that many have not ridden before. Of course, this means that riders will often times need to carry any food, water, etc that they expect to need during the ride. Some of these areas do not have much, if anything, in the way of services. Riders should be prepared for new and wonderful scenic roads that they can enjoy will challenging themselves. The potential routes I have planned out so far can be viewed in the NC3 RwGPS catalog with the tag "Alt Sunday".
The inaugural ride is tentatively planned for November 6. The route will be out of Alpine. We will ride to Pine Valley via Japatul Valley, and return on Old 80.

I appreciate the enthusiasm and look forward to it myself. I would like to point out that I have personally ridden (many times over, sometimes at night) all of the roads I plan to use, so I'm not shooting blind here. I will post to the message board about each month's ride a week or two in advance, so that everyone has information about the start location, support on route, weather, etc. As it has already come up - yes, car pooling is a good idea.
