Title: January 8 Pine Valley Sunday
Post by: Robert Abraham on December 18, 2016, 04:26:35 PM
Comrades!

My next monthly Sunday ride will be on January 8 out of Pine Valley. This is a very scenic 48 miles with only a couple stop signs. We head South out of Pine Valley for a high speed run down Old Hwy 80 (make a mental note of this descent - you have to climb back up on the return) and Buckman Springs. At mile 15-ish, we will regroup at Cameron Corners Circle K. This is the only decent, reliable services for the next 26 miles, which is long rolling climbs. From here, the route turns East on Hwy 94 to Boulevard. Tierra del Sol Road marks the end of the climbs. Hwy 94 rejoins Old Hwy 80, at which point the route turns West to return to Pine Valley on Old Hwy 80. The climbing continues up to the Golden Acorn Casino, where we will have a quick regroup. Services are available if needed at the travel center store. Some flats and a few short descents until mile 40 when the road starts to gradually get steeper as we begin the grind back to Pine Valley; it's similar to the Champagne climb.

I hope to see more of you out there. This ride is worth the trip, and will be a treat for those that have not ridden in the area before. Arrive early and have pancakes at Majors, or stay after for lunch at Frosty Burger.

Please note that this ride will be subject the whims of the weather, and may be cancelled. It might be nice, it might be stupid cold, it might be monsoon rains.

Right now, the weather forecast says it will be nice. If this changes, I will reschedule this ride for the end of the month or for February.
