I have decided to pass the baton. I have been driving to North County from San Diego most Saturday and Sundays for 4 + years . My family situation is starting to change as well. Sunday 10-22 will be the last Sunday ride I will lead. Of course I will still be participating as a regular member in the club rides whenever I can. I have made a lot of great friendships riding with you guys for the past 4 to 5 years and am looking foward to future rides with you all. I want to thank everyone for there great participation and support.
Nigel
Nigel,
Sorry to see you go as ride leader and thanks so much for the hard work and great rides. I always appreciated the variety and your willingness to try some new routes. Sundays will never be the same.
Nigel,
I don't think it matters at all but just a heads up that the Giro di San Diego Gran Fondo is on October 22nd. It starts from Kit Carson and goes up Palomar. Both the 100 miler and 60 miler are going up Palomar. Our paths will cross as the route is very similar to the route you have planned including Cole Grade.
Thanks Sean I was unaware. That's ok . The more the merrier. Maybe we can sneak a few snacks ;)
Hi Nigel, I'd like to 2nd Sean's thank you and sentiment of you'll be missed. I don't ride with NCCC on as many Sunday's as I used to but I enjoyed the variety you added and more so your company. Be safe and hopefully this isn't a "goodbye" and you still drive up to north county. I've very much enjoyed following after I gave up my leadership. All the best, Anthony
Sorry to hear this news also. :'( You did an exceptional job!!
We know because we were ride leader for many years both Sundays and Saturdays.
Happy you will continue to come ride with the club
Thanks again for all you did!!
I agree with all the previous comments.
Thank-you for taking on the role and all the associated effort. You've done an outstanding job.
Hope we see you on lots of weekend rides in the future.
Keep on grinding!!!... ;)
Any update on a new Sunday ride leader? Who is the lucky person?
No one has volunteered as of yet. There was some conversation this last Sunday about just having a default route for Sundays posted for now.
Are you thinking about a second term.?😉
Hahahaha, no, I'm not ready to to volunteer for a 2nd round of ride leader. Nice try! ;)
Bummer I will be missing your last ride as leader Nigel. You did a pretty good job IMO. Just got an email from the Giro that they are taking us down Cole Grade instead of Valley Center because of construction.
Nigel - You've really done an incredible job, adding much spice and interest after my 9 years of settling into a rather predictable rotation. Thanks for doing it and we understand how important your family is now. I'll also offer to help anyone with the route management aspect of the job, using Ride With GPS. NCCC wants all ride leaders to have taken the Smart Cycling class, so I can also facilitate that if someone is dying to lead and hasn't yet had the pleasure of being tutored by Pete Penseyres. I know many of us think we have little to learn, but if Pete learned new things when he took the class about 9 years ago, including riding skills, after 600,000+ cycling miles on the road including two solo RAAM wins, everyone can benefit from the class.
Thanks again!
