Title: New access restrictions to Camp Pendleton
Post by: Robert Abraham on July 12, 2018, 04:19:32 PM
As of Monday, July 9, Camp Pendleton has new access restrictions and procedures are in place. For those that still prefer to ride through the base, it is likely that you are no longer welcome aboard.

https://www.pendleton.marines.mil/Base-Access/

From the website:

"Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton recently implemented the Defense Biometric Identification System, a new Physical Access Control System.

This new system focuses on access control procedures to ensure the protection of Active Duty personnel, residents and civilian employees. These policies are intended to help Marines accomplish their mission and keep families aboard Camp Pendleton safe, while allowing access to authorized personnel, contractor & vendors and sponsored visitors.

DoD issued ID card holders will automatically be enrolled in DBIDS after their first ID scan upon entering Camp Pendleton. DoD issued ID card holders may also sponsor visitors by using the Sponsored Visitor Roster Request below.

All unescorted visitors are required to obtain a DBIDS credential/pass in order to gain authorized access to Camp Pendleton."

It is my understanding that there are a few club members that hold valid, active DoD issued ID cards. However, I am against asking them to sponsor the entire club. There could be issues with that. So again, go take a look at the website. As of now, cyclists can no longer pull up to the gate and show ID, even if you have registered under the old system.

I cannot comment on how that process works, as I choose not to ride through the base.

• From the Camp Pendleton Web: Cyclists are allowed to transit North/South from the Las Pulgas gate to the Main gate (Stuart Mesa Rd to Vandergrift Blvd) and South/North from the Main gate to the Las Pulgas gate (Vandergrift Blvd to Stuart Mesa Rd).  Recreational Bicyclists will be issued a DBIDS credential by the Visitor Center.  Recreational Bicyclists are only authorized to access the base for bicycle transit and may not participate in other base activities. https://www.pendleton.marines.mil/Base-Access/FAQ/ (https://www.pendleton.marines.mil/Base-Access/FAQ/)
