Title: Sun. 9/25 Sunrise Hwy. ride [Note: 9am start]
Post by: Nerius Landys on September 22, 2011, 10:42:40 AM
I'm really looking forward to Sunday's ride.  Never done Kitchen Creek.  How is the weather forecast lookin'?

Are we meeting in Pine Valley at 8:30, our usual time?

I hope we don't go up that really steep road that's near Sunrise Hwy., I forgot the name of that road.  I think you guys went up it last time, and Diana had to walk up it.  Anthony says "It builds character".

Nerius -

Note that I just put a 9am start on the Roadies page, and am announcing it here as well. We started at that time when we did Sunrise Hwy/ Pine Valley loop in May. This time we will start with the Kitchen Creek climb. I will map out the second half  of the ride and have route slips, but the plan is probably to do Engineer's Rd instead of the radical Pine Creek climb. It will be a great climbing Sunday, I promise. I finally got to the internet this evening as we've been in the woods in Oregon the past 5 days. We intend to get to San Diego on Friday evening for this weekend's rides, at which time I will  get the Sunday route completely mapped out on Ride With GPS.

For any newbies to this ride, please get the Google Map link to the Pine Valley ride start under Roadies > Ride start directions (http://northcountycycleclub.com/web/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=69).

Looking forward to riding with the group this weekend - Karl

All - the route map is complete. The Engineers Rd loop I stole from a MapMyRide 20 mi loop. This is a nice, climbing complement but nowhere near as radical as Pine Valley, or even Kitchen Creek for that matter. Please go to the Roadies page and click on the link, under Sunday Long Rides "for maps and routeslips..." to get a RideWithGPS map of the route. RideWithGPS maps this out at 74 mi and 7900 ft of elev gain. Be ready to roll by 9am, plan on spending the majority of the day there, with a burger and shake at Major's to reward yourself.

Oh man I kinda wish we started at 8 or even 7:30, but too late now.  In any case, this ride is gonna be epic!

KB - You could do the Kitchen Creek climb and head down Sunrise Hwy to Pine Valley. You'll be done early.

20 riders made the long trek to Pine Valley, including 4 mountain climbing women - Diana, Ursula, Evelyn, Lilian. One of those really nice weather days for the Mt Laguna area and most enjoyed Kitchen Creek and Engineers Rd for the first time. Click on Photos > 2011 (http://northcountycycleclub.com/photoGallery/2011/index.htm) for some images from the ride.
