Club Rides & Events / Group Lane Changes
Last post by karlos - January 16, 2025, 04:32:10 PM
I've shared this before, but here it is again as I believe it's something that all the NCCC ride groups can do better. Please watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnGVeDdSfjg. If the Bobbies can have fun doing this to be safe, then NCCC can do it, too!

This should be in the Education section of the Forum, but it's here for now so it gets more exposure.

Club Rides & Events / Re: Streamlined Smart Cycling ...

This is a great offer for a valuable learning experience. When I took it, the on-bike city-riding section had plenty of safety aha moments.

Club Rides & Events / Streamlined Smart Cycling cour...
Last post by karlos - December 26, 2024, 06:35:52 AM
Since a Smart Cycling certificate is required for all ride leaders, Bob Hanlon and I are offering a special Smart Cycling session geared toward NCCC members. Although about 25% of the club have their certificate, we are inviting those who still want to go through the course to join in this special session for a new ride leader.

The biggest drawback that most find for the Smart Cycling program is the 9hrs of your time it normally requires. For this special session, the 3 hour classroom part can be done online, including taking a quiz to show you learned the material. This should take around 2 hours and it needn't be done in one sitting. After that, we would like a short Zoom, less than an hour, to go over some CA-specific things which are not covered in the national online program by the League of American Bicyclists (LAB).

The second biggest roadblock for NCCC members is that the 6hr road session is usually a Saturday and who wants to miss an NCCC ride, instructors included? We will find a Sunday afternoon for the road session, which also won't take 6 hours because we save an hour by passing the quiz ahead of time and if the class size is small, we can get through the time on bikes more quickly.

If this sounds like you want to join, just email Karl at rudnick.cooper@gmail.com so we can get you started.

Class size is limited to 8 and this will be free!

Bicycle Education & Advocacy / Dangerous intersections
Last post by Paul Nevins - December 13, 2024, 07:18:58 AM
Pete suggested that we compile a list of intersections that fail to meet the criteria for daylighting. There's a new requirement for intersections now that prohibits parking and other obstructions from blocking the sight lines at intersections. You most likely have encountered some intersections where you may have to move out into cross traffic before you can see any vehicles approaching or where you might be hidden from vehicles passing through or making turns. Please send your Contribution to the list, include pictures if you have any, to: saferintersections@icloud.com.
Pass it on to your friends, I will send the lists to each city's traffic department and city council members.

Won these new DT Swiss wheels on a raffle last week. Not compatible with my bike since they are suitable for disc brakes, tubeless.

Light, fast good for climbing.
If interested please text me 203 675 5105. I need a road bike, so make an offer so I can get my bike & stop using my TT bike on your rides:)
