Anthony went down on Highland today

Anthony Smith hit the deck on Highland today. We were descending moderately. It appeared that his front tire hit a bolt (Jim found it on the road) and blew out the tire, causing him to lose control. He went down and skidded like a pro. We called 911, Evelyn tied her arm cooler around his cut eye brow, and he was taken to Pomerado hospital in an ambulance. Luckily, no broken bones, but lots of road rash on his right side and back. Terrific evidence of how a helmet saves your head, as it was crushed. We are hoping to see him back on the bike soon. His bike looked pretty good - evidence of the bolt striking his rim will require either a rim straightening or a new rim.

Oh no!  Scary descent.  Good news is nothing broken!

Ha Anthony,

I'm very happy you did not break anything. Road rash sucks big time. Get well soon.

Jeff

Anthony, I’m very glad to hear nothing is broken.   My gosh; a bolt.  With the steepness of the grade, you were sliding on the ground for a long time.  I sure don’t envy your recovery.

The crash and emergency response was fairly spectacular though â€" the wipeout was much cooler than Jeff’s dainty hip slip.  Your slide, skid, tumble, and reskid into the bushes all while semi-attached to your bike was Youtube worthy.

It seems that you had the poor sense to crash on jurisdictional boundary; and while the emergency response lacked an attractive young woman running to the rescue it did have two fire trucks, two cop cars, an ambulance, and Sean in a sports coup.

Get better soon buddy.

Hope you heal quickly and see you soon.

Thanks NCCC members.  I appreciate all the help and support.
I'm feeling better today. The swelling on my leg is down and road rash is starting to heal.  Last night was the first night I was able turn in my bed without waking up in pain. I'm hoping to be out and riding in couple weeks. Until then, take care and stay safe.

Glad to know you are recovering well.
