Thanks to Jason MacDonnell for this information. The base decided 4/10 to close access for cyclists. Note that State Park San Onofre in common with all other State Parks is also closed. So as Horace Greely did'nt say.... "go east" or south.

So would you say it's safe to assume that CalTrans will be sweeping the shoulder on I5 all the way up to Basilone or Christianitos? It is, after all, a legal bike route.

I have now ridden to San Clemente and Dana Pt a couple of times the past 2 weeks. Camp Pendleton is wide open with a current DIBS pass. Right now, they are suspending renewing or getting a brand new DIBS, though. I think that office there near the gate is still closed to the public, but once you show them your DIBS it's clear sailing. Today there were even more cars in the campground, too, where it was totally vacant (but open to cyclists) a couple weeks ago.

The guards are masked. Not sure it's required, but certainly the smart, friendly, and respectful thing to do when showing your pass. While actually riding I usually slip mine down so I can breathe better.

Can one get a renewal to a pass yet?
Also is the path from Las Pulgas Rd to San Clemente open?

Yes and Yes. Went thru to SJ Capistrano on 9/26; clear all the way. Re-new access pass: take passport or RealID; takes 10 minutes (not on Mondays).
