Call it a fall classic - the pie ride in reverse. All who care to join me are invited on a 100-mile-ish jaunt from Kit Carson park in Escondido up Highland Valley to Ramona and old highway 78 to Santa Ysabel for a slice of pie at the Julian pie co. From there, we'll head over Mesa Grande to Palomar South Grade and a second slice of pie at Mother's Kitchen before a fast return to Escondido via South Grade and Lake Wohlford. We'll start at sunup, regroup occasionally, and finish as a group.

Moustaches, especially for the fairer sex, are optional.

Are you in?

DANG, I want to go!!!  I'm only in if Ursala brings the tandem and does all most of the work.  :)  If you waited about 4-6 weeks and we did it in the snow maybe I'd be ready.  Of course, Sean would peel off early and have some discussion about conspiracies again. .....but then Wade could provide a counterpoint and we'd have a new set of writings for the NCCC front page.

Bill - You have a great knack for timing. In the spring, it was on the day of the Solvang Spring Double, Mar 24 that you last scheduled a pie ride and Anthony non-Scozzari, Evelyn, Jim W, John and I ended up fighting headwinds most of the day. Oct 13 is the Solvang Fall Double. I'll have to confer with the durable duo (A&E wanted to do Solvang) to see if they would rather do 3iq. Doing both is out. Will take some cogitating.

Hrm, Oct 14 is a Fiesta Island time trial day, but otherwise I'm in, we'll see.
But, we also need a regular Pie ride shortly before Xmas just like last year, and we must have it on a snowy day like last time!

I am definitely in for this ride.  But it better be cold and miserable because I do better riding up Palomar if my body is numb from the cold and doesn’t feel any pain.  Anthony, how about Nerius ride with you on the tandem and you can put try to figure out his coin slot shorts.  That seems to be an ongoing subject amongst the men anyway.  Actually, a better idea is for Titanium Man to be our sag wagon support, hand out water bottles, take/give extra clothes when needed, adjust brakes while moving, yell at us for added motivation, and order pie in advance of our arrival.

And I have been anxiously awaiting another fictional story by Sean, so this ride should provide him with some inspiration.  And then Wade can write “what really happened.”  Bill can be our fearless guide decked in plaid leader and bring some reason to this wayward group.

Ursula

One last time, let’s put this to rest………

1)As Anthony states “Of course, Sean would peel off early and have some discussion about conspiracies again.” This comment is of great concern and I fear Anthony’s titanium implant is leaching into his blood stream and making a bee line to his brain resulting in delusional visions. Or, it’s the pain meds he has been hording and taking like vitamins.

2)There was no “peeling off”. The smarter route I had pre-planned was based on scientific research (if anyone should understand science its Anthony) about the weather, earthquake predictions, tsunami warnings, and locust infestation.  My factual research indicated questionable conditions on the top of Palomar Mountain so I made a game day call to avoid the miserable conditions that existed. Clearly, I took the smarter route.

3)As my earlier writings suggest, after almost a year, there is still no proof that this group of “Pie Riders” actually went to the top of Palomar. Rather, close inspection of NASA satellite photos for the day of the ride, while I admit a bit grainy, shows a red and white checkered table cloth spread at the base of Palomar Mountain with several bikes lying in the grass beside the table cloth and several spandex clad individuals dining on wine, cheese and sausage. Conspiracy, I think not…….fact.

4)As Ursula has slandered “And I have been anxiously awaiting another fictional story by Sean”. FICTIONAL, I think not unusually large green sock young lady. More like a whistle blower being kept down by the man. A group of riders say….we made it to the top of Palomar in rain, snow, ice, blizzard, yet still no proof. Frankly, this reminds of the poor chaps stranded by a plane crash in the Andes and we know what happened there.

5)Clearly these smear tactics are just a smoke screen hiding the facts. Something happened on that blizzard pie ride that the group is unwilling to share or admit. Instead, they attack me (to protect myself I have adopted a code name â€" The Owl) for trying to expose the truth.

6)The readers need to decide for themselves. I would call for voting buttons but there is one long rider in particular that can’t seem to figure out the simple concept of clicking on yes or no.

7)If anyone out there has factual evidence to support my claims, please meet me behind the dumpster, make sure you are not followed, and hoot like an owl and I will know it’s you and all clear. Do not be startled by my protective disguise. I may look like a village people but it’s to throw off my detractors.

8)If you support my cause, feel free to send cash, no traceable checks or credit cards.

9)The OWL will not be ignored and he will rise in triumph and justice.

10)Sorry got to go, the nice man in the white coat is bringing me colorful pills.

Nothing magical in the date - just chose a weekend far enough into the indefinite future to give myself a chance to gain some fitness and grow a worthy 'stache. If another Saturday/Sunday works better for the group, I'm game. Perhaps the 7th, to give you doublers a good final peak before tapering? I sure don't want to get in the way of Nerius punishing himself at Fiesta Island - I feel like he's punished me enough over the last few months!

I'd submit the date to a vote but, to echo Sean, some people have a problem with the democratic (small d) process. Wonder if that's just a German thing? Let the majority rule!

Yes, October 7th is better and I think the "doublers" would appreciate it too.

Damn. I should learn to check my calendar before I open my mouth. I can't ride the 7th. Doesn't mean y'all can't do it then, just that I can't. 21st anyone?

karlos

That's actually a bit better for me. It'll get the kinks out from the previous weekend...

I'm not medicated any longer and fear I'm going to have to do double double doubles just to be able to sleep.... So if I need to, I can do  Palomar back asswards,  then ride to Solvang, double dipsee and back.... Just let me know.....

A Pie Ride without Bill wouldn't be a Pie Ride!
He is our fearless leader!

Well that makes it official, the 21st it is!
