Tom Emerick crashed horribly on the NCCC Saturday long ride a couple weeks ago. It happened in Carlsbad turning from Canon onto Faraday. He broke 7 ribs, punctured a lung, developed pneumonia, and was put on a ventilator. Tom is still in the hospital (Scripps La Jolla), and is doing better. "He is alert and able to communicate yes and no.  Is breathing on his own 4x day. Getting better each day". Keep Tom in your thoughts and prayers.

Latest: Tom continues to progress more alert and responsive, sat up when doctor came in.  They inserted feeding tube so he can get proper nutrition.   Still on ventilator but continues to work on breathing on his own.  All good news.

Thanks for the updates Jeff.  Scary fall and injuries and I am glad to hear Tom is getting slowly better!

From Lisa at FDA:

All -

I just spoke with Dianne and she relayed that Tom just got transferred from ICU to the Transitional Unit.  Both the breathing and feeding tubes are out and he is breathing and eating well on his own.  Dianne said she will advise when Tom is up to seeing visitors.  I told Dianne that Tom has a huge fan club that rivals that of Justin Biebers and asked if he could be contacted via email.  She said Tom would love to see the emails and said that she will bring Tom's iPad to the hospital so he is able to see and respond to emails.  If you don't have it already and would like to send Tom an email, his email address is overthetop602007@gmail.com.

Much to my surprise, I actually got to speak with Tom briefly.  The first thing he said was that he was ready to come back to work!

Continued good news.  Tom feeling much better, they removed the chest tube.  There is a good chance he will be able to go home tomorrow.  His email is overthetop602007@gmail.com, if you want to communicate with him.
