For those who knew Sandy Sanders, who occasionally rode with NCCC a few years ago, I have some terrible news. Sandy Sanders died on March 17th from injuries sustained in a biking accident the previous day while riding with Tom Yager, a friend from Sierra Club Bike Section. While traveling south on Torrey Pines Rd. just past the golf course, Sandy rolled over a branch, which caught in his front spokes and sent him over the handlebars. His neck was broken in the fall. He never regained consciousness.

Sandy was a long-time volunteer for the Sierra Club and a tireless advocate for bicycling. He served as the Sierra Club Bike Section Ride Coordinator for over 15 years, and represented the section at the monthly San Diego Chapter meetings of the Sierra Club. He also served on the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition board, and from 1993 to 1997 he was their Vice Chair. He was well known for his enthusiastic, can-do attitude toward any task that helped the bicycling community. He will be sorely missed by his many friends.

In lieu of sending flowers and gifts, the family has established a fund in Sandy?s name. If you wish to make a donation, please make checks payable to Sierra Club and send them to
