Message Board Policy Change

Policy for posting on this board is now changed due to a recent set of anonymous posts, some humorous and some not, which caused a topic originator to remove a topic ? completely unfair to that person and against the guidelines established by my predecessor for keeping this board a place where people can post cycling related messages and not have it interspersed with jibberish. I cannot moderate this board 24 hrs/day ? in this case, some of these posts occurred in the middle of the day ? some of us actually work - and this prevented me from moderating it properly. This issue was discussed in Reasons to Register, item #9. Since the new Forum software has been in place for ~6 months now and most cycling related posts are now written by registered members (thanks for registering, folks ? we're at about 50 registered to date!), I feel it is appropriate and less disruptive at this time to make the following policy change:

Both the main Message Board and Website boards can be viewed by anyone on the web, but only registered members can post. Humor will be tolerated and generates interest and fun in topics, but you need to stand behind your humor as a registered member ? we're all grownups.

I apologize to the people who want to be funny (anonymously), but more to those who want this board to be legitimate and could not, up until now, feel safe that replies may not follow our Guidelines (see News Box above right). However, please do not blame me for the new policy ? if you know who these anonymous posters are, please talk to them. If the experience is diminished for you, it is due to them.  If any one of them would like to step up, introduce themselves to everyone, and volunteer to moderate the board 24/7, please e-mail me ? I'm not anonymous and can be contacted from here via Personal Message or just about anywhere else on the NCCC website (Contact us link). Please use the Website Forum for any discussions on this new policy (if you're not registered, you will need to do so to voice your opinion). Posts to the cycling Message Board regarding guest posting policy will promptly be moved to the Website board.

This will take a little getting used to, but this is the way that all on-line boards work these days, policies which are put in place and enforced by the forum software so that moderators do not have to manually check each post daily, for all the reasons listed above and more (no spam, pornography, ?). It will be mildly inconvenient for those out-of-towners seeking cycling info in San Diego, but they can quickly register in a couple dozen keystrokes (as opposed to the ~dozen to type their name), so they're not locked out.
