Lanterne Rouge

So I’m thinking we should start some tradition amongst the long riders where we award some sort of symbolic prize like the lanterne rouge, a scarf?, or some such thing to be worn by the rider who does the silliest/dumbest/worst cycling thing during a month of rides.

If we decide to do something like this, I would like to nominate myself as the first recipient.  I was excited to ride Tuesday but ended up busy at work and had to rush home to make the 5:30 time.  I changed, put on my shoes, and loaded up the car -- all the while talking on the phone.  Zipping down the highway to Del Mar, I checked my blind spot as I moved over to exit on Del Mar Heights Rd and thought it very strange that my bike wasn’t in the back of the car.

I actually went to a group ride without my bike.  With images of me trying to keep up with the group as I ran along in my spandex and cleats I red-facedly got back on the highway to sit in the I5 traffic.

Being too ashamed at the time to show up and accept the ridicule I was due, I’ve come clean and would accept the lanterne rouge should the judges see fit.

Some prize is certainly in order. I have left one shoe , both shoes, gloves, water bottles, socks... Never my bike, but I've been waiting for it. You beat me to it, Wade.

You mean something like this??

2007 TdF at the finish of the ITT. Can't remember who's bike it was.

Lou...

I believe that is Wim Vansevenant's bike. That gives me a good idea for some crafting. I might have something to start passing around soon.

PS - I'll be be back this Saturday.
