Dear North County Cycle Club ,

My name is Karen Vaughan and I am a retired physician.  I am currently part of a search and rescue operation to find a missing dog, a Vizsla named Savannah.  I'm hoping you can help me.  Savannah was running with her owner on the 56 bike path off Carmel Creek Rd on Sunday Dec 16, 8:30am, when she spooked and bolted.  She ran till the trail ended, crossed under I-5, and apparently swam the lagoon.  She was spotted by two cyclists, heading up the grade on Torrey Pines Road, running full speed.  She was additionally sighted by a ranger on the service park road at Torrey Pines State Park, running south toward the golf course.

I know the bicycling community is tightly-knit, so I am asking you to please get the word out about this dog.  We are searching in the Penasquitos Lagoon/Torrey Pines State Park areas as well as the bike trail off 56 where she originally bolted.  But Savannah could actually have continued past the golf course into La Jolla, so we are including that area too.  We are being guided in the search effort by a professional pet rescue service.

If you could please pass this on to your members to keep a lookout for Savannah, I would really appreciate it.  Someone may see her while riding through the area, or may have seen her on a previous ride.  If seen, she should not be chased; rather, a phone call should be made immediately telling of her location.  We would be so grateful for any information you could provide.  I have attached a poster with contact information.

Thank you so much,

Karen Vaughan M.D.

Photo: Missing Vizsla in San Diego: "Savannah" was last seen running up Torrey Pines Road near Torrey Pines Beach around 10:30 AM. She is tagged and chipped. For everyone who lives in San Diego, please be on the look out for her. Please contact Donna Wolosin dgwolosin@san.rr.com 858-509-2674

and here is a photo of Savannah...

Savannah  the missing Vizsla showed up at my back door at 2:00 am last night, Christmas Eve.  I had left my gate open, hoping beyond all hopes that she might find her way here.  (I am not her owner, but a good friend.)  I heard a couple of alert-type yips, ran downstairs, and there she was, waiting to come in, as if she had just gone outside for a potty break as usual.

She has lost alot of weight but looked surprisingly good.  No open wounds, no shredded pads. She wasn't limping.  Her toenails were down to little nubs and her red collar was partially shredded but still intact with tags on.  Where she has been for the last almost 8 days is anyone's guess.  She was hungry and thirsty, but still just headed upstairs at my house like she always does when she is staying here.  Donna and Jamie came over immediately and we had a huge reunion, hugging and crying, overcome with gratitude that she is safe.

We prayed, God answered.  He is real.

Please spread the good news of the Christmas Miracle!

Love,

Karen Vaughan
