During the century training ride v.3 today, I watched the Flight For Life approaching as I climbed up Old Hwy. 395. I had instant flashback to less than a year ago, when the Flight For Life landed in the exact same spot for Shawn Harrison. I said out loud, "this can't be happening again"!

A rider taking part in the Pedal For Kids/Avenue of the Oaks Bicycle Event crashed out on a downhill turn a mile up Lilac Road. He was all busted up and the ambulance transported him down to the closest landing spot. I interviewed 2 riders who were with him at the time. There was no cell phone connection in that area, so one rode down to the intersection and summoned a CHP Officer, who was working the intersection/rest stop for the Avenue of the Oaks Bicycle Event. The Event started on Reche Road at Live Oak Park near Fallbrook and had 3 rides: 15mi, 31mi and metric century. The rider was doing the 31 mile ride.

The metric century riders rode up from Bonsall on Lilac Road, the 31 mile riders rode to the same intersection via Couser Canyon and Lilac Road from the East. Both meeting at the rest stop on Hwy 395! There were lots of riders all over the place today! I certainly hope the rider's injuries aren't too severe and he will recover in good order.

Pictures of the Full Committment Century Training Ride, v.3 will be up in the gallery in due course. Thanks Karl!
Good running to Jeff Gross in the Carlsbad 5000K on Sunday! He rode the 70 mile ride today and looked "cooked" to me! Jeff has amazing recovery powers!

ride safe,
