Comrades!

Following on yesterday's pre-ride announcement, Saturday May 6 will be the Santa Ysabel century. We will leave at 7. Weather should be nice, and we may even have a SAG. The route is pretty much the same. A few changes at the end to get back through Escondido. I do not have any stops planned between Santa Ysabel and Escondido. This part of the route is mainly flat and downhill, so as long as the weather is good, I do not see any need for a break or water stop. The planned break stops are the 7-11 at Harrahs and Santa Ysabel, as well as a quick stop to regroup and get water at the Shell station on Del Lago in Escondido. Noted on the route slip will be two spots for water/food if needed; the La Jolla Amago camp store at mile 35 and the Lake Henshaw store at mile 42. As long as riders leave Harrahs with two bottles, there shouldn't be any issues. If it gets hot, riders can deviate into Ramona for water if needed. The recommended route to do so is to continue on Old Julian as it becomes 3rd street, then left onto D street, the right onto 11th. There is a 7-11 on the corner of 11th and Main. Head SE on 11th to San Vicente to rejoin the main route, or take Main to Highland Valley. As long as riders have 2 full bottles when leaving Santa Ysabel, we should be fine.

All,

I have been watching the weather forecast this week, and it continues to get worse as the days go by. I will decide later this evening, but I may reschedule Santa Ysabel for next Saturday. Current forecasts have it cold and probably wet in Santa Ysabel, raining by the time we get to Ramona. Possibly damp in the morning. It will likely be up you, the riders, to decide. I would prefer nice weather for a more enjoyable ride for everyone.

Hi Robert,

Any word on go or no go?

Thanks!
Joel

Comrades!

I have decided to reschedule Santa Ysabel for May 13. The weather is too iffy right now. I want everyone to have a nice ride, good photos, and no stress. I am not in the mood to chance it and play 'hard man' tomorrow, and I know most others will likely pass as well. My apologies to everyone if this throws a wrench in your plans. But stuff happens, what the heck. If it's not looking too awful (mist/wet roads ok, heavy rain is a deal breaker) Saturday morning, I will be at OCRR to lead a ride, usual 8 AM time slot. Out & back to Bonsall.

Rob,

Thanks again for setting up another great ride. Feedback from everyone is that it was an awesome day and ride. I also liked that detour through Sky Ranch in Ramona.
