Comrades!

I have for you a wonderful opportunity to resurrect a lovely old workhorse. This is an early 90's Diamondback Apex MTB. Yes, the paint is pretty rough. It has been well loved in it's time. This was my first real MTB I got when I was 12 or 13. It is is solid and reliable. I am not sure of the sizing, but the seat tube is approxiamtely 38 cm C to T. Top tube is sloping, but measures about 52 cm. It's a small size. 26" wheels, 135 mm rear, 1" headset, braze-ons that can fit fenders and racks - front and rear. Included Shimano Deore DX (7 speed, triple) parts as follows:

derailleurs, front and rear

brakes - catis front, U type rear (mounted under the chain stay)

levers and trigger shifters

Sycros seat post, Tioga stem w/ cable routing

Triple crankset

Headset and bottom bracket should be replaced

So what would you do with this thing anyhow? It's my opinion that this bike can be built into a solid, reliable touring bike or commuter/urban runabout. That frame is very stout, and can be fitted with front low-rider and rear racks to carry panniers. For someone that likes to tinker, this could be a fun project. I suggest setting the bike up with drop bars and bar-end shifters. I can be built up with modern components, but using brifters will not work because of the brakes. It needs wheels, obviously. I have a quill-to-threadless stem adapter I can include as well. If you're interested, send me an email: robert5639 at cox dot net.
