Once again, the weather gods have gotten in the way of our classic Borrego/Montezuma ride planned for this Sunday, Oct. 12. The forecast is for extreme Santa Ana conditions on Sunday. I want to avoid both overheating on the Montezuma climb and the possibility of fire. I realize the forecast could change but the last time we changed at the last minute, one rider was left by himself at Dudley's wondering where the heck the rest of us were. So, I'm trying to get the word out early. We'll schedule for November - if anyone has Nov weekends to avoid (I won't schedule it over Thanksgiving) post here or email me so we can get everyone out there who loves this rural, but tough, ride.

New Oct. 12 route: Start @ OCRR: ride TBD consistent with conditions - bring your ideas. [the original alternative was the Oct 19 ride so scratch that]

New ride is set. Visit http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Del-Dios-RSF-Coast for the route and cue sheet (select "Show", then "Cue Sheet"). The route is 54.6 mi and manages 4000' of elevation gain but nothing steep - these are all familiar roads, but done in a slightly different order to reduce chances of boredom. For those wishing more than 55 mi and more climbing, just take a right turn on Melrose at mile 49.89 and do San Elijo/Twin Oaks, after which you can return to OCRR or do Twin Oaks / Silverleaf (Burt's trail to the reservoir) and return on Champagne, for an extra 20-25 miles.

The only open date for rescheduling epic Dudley's/Borrego/Montezuma is possibly Nov 23, as people have passed on their other commitment. If anyone else has a problem with Nov 23, we can try December, which is when we did it last year.
