To those of you who don't know or who are not on an email list from long ago: I want to pass on the sad news that Joe Haring has passed away.  Bob and I are very sad to hear this.  Joe was a joy to ride with and someone who always made me feel good.  One thing I remember in particular is how Joe supported his nephew, Keith Haring.  This was at a time when supporting members of the gay community and those with AIDS was not so popular.  Joe was able to step outside popular opinion in his gentle and quiet way.  He is a hero to me and I only regret not having ridden with him more often.  I am deeply sad about his death.

When I started riding with NCCC in 2002, Joe was a mainstay of Saturday mornings. He was the Roadies spokesman at the time. He always had nothing but positive things to say. In his latter years, he was the heart of the Thursday ride. That group put together the attached pdf as a tribute to Joe. We all miss you, Joe.

Thank you for posting Beth and for the pictures Karl. Joe added focus and calm to the Thursday rides it was always a pleasure to ride with him. He is sorely missed. Here he is at Swami's giving the order to mount up.

Dan thinks a good tribute to Joe would be a donation to the Maritime Museum of San Diego, where Joe was a docent for many years. If you would like to do so, send a check made out to the museum for whatever amount you like. Be sure to write "in honor of Joe Haring" on the bottom line of the check. Send the check to Dan at 1579 Maritime Dr. Carlsbad,Ca. 92011. Dan is a member of the Museum and will see that they receive them.  Ideally, we would like to get wrap this up ASAP, so if interested, please get your contribution to Dan within the next couple weeks.  It will be a suiting tribute to Joe and much appreciated by the Museum also.

Great idea. Is there some reason why we just don't send the donation directly to the Maritime Museum? They are a 501 c3, so it might be easier to get individual receipts for tax purposes.
