Not sure if any of you know, but within seconds of passing your Saturday club ride at the corner of Old 395 and Lilac Road, a cyclist was hit at that intersection by a car heading south on Old 395 turning left onto Lilac.  The rider was still alive last I know, but he was unconscious and bleeding severely.

I've been scouring news sources to find out more, but I can't find anything.  I pray that he is hanging on.  It's a reminder to all of us and even scarier when it happens so close.

North County Times, Sunday, June 10, 2007

"BONSALL:
A 37 year old man was seriously injured Saturday morning when his bicycle was broadsided by a truck, authorities said.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of a Nissan pickup truck heading east on West Lilac Road about 9:35 AM failed to see the bicyclist, who was headed northbound on Old Highway 395, California Highway Patrol officer Jeff Walker said.
The bicyclist suffered major injuries and was taken by Mercy Air helicopter to Palomar Medical Center for treatment, Walker said. Authorities closed the roadway for about 30 minutes to tend to the crash, the officer said."

Thanks so much for the article clip.  I thank God he is still alive and pray he recovers.

Team & friends,

For those of you that do not know, Pendleton Tri Team member, Shawn Harrison
was hit by a pick up truck on Saturday morning while riding north on 395...
The truck, apparently did not see him, as he traveled east on W. Lilac..
the accident was fatal.

i'll forward plans for the Memorial Service as i know them... and for the
planned Memorial Ride in honor of Shawn.

Please do not contact his wife, Chris, at this time, as you can imagine the
ordeal is tragic... but thought everyone should be aware...

Shawn was an outstanding individual and a good friend. He will be extremely
missed.

God bless Shawn and Chris.
