More challenging than anything

More challenging than anything Froome had to deal with on the road was this more insidious and opaque opponent: suspicion.

The new test and finding the 2007 test results seems  to put suspicion to bed. I like to believe he is truly clean,  although I and most everyone I know said the same for Floyd and Lance. At least Lemond appears to have withstood it all.

Interesting that the self-designated ‘expert’ who leads the charge against Froome describes a range of performance as ‘mutant’.
The Tour is always won by a mutant, because each of us is a mutant dozens of times over! The very idea of a fixed biological limit on VO2Max or any aspect of human performance is inconsistent with basic biology. So performance measures could never be incriminating (even leaving aside that VO2Max, like body weight, responds to training). It’s good that the Esquire article pushes back a bit against the unwarranted claims of the ‘expert’, instead of fanning the flames of suspicion in the interests of drama.
