Comrades!

Recently a few people have mentioned an interest about a century for this year, as well as some increasingly longer rides leading up to it. In years past, Jeff would plan a route to add on a few miles each month, but that pushes off the actual century into mid-summer. I did something similar one year, with larger mileage increments each month to bring the century ride into late spring. There are ups and downs to both. Mid summer can see high temps and/or heavy traffic, depending on where the route goes. Late spring can get a bit of weather, as we experienced last year. If there is any genuine interest in making this happen, I encourage a few of you to join forces and plan it out. Choose some routes and let me so I can add it to the ride schedule. All of you are capable of riding a century. It's less about strength and speed, and more about planning and building endurance with a positive mindset. Eat, drink, and ride within your limits.

Rob,

Great idea!  Perhaps a Metric Century in FEB and MAR, an 80 miler in APR, finishing with our traditional century in MAY?  For this month we could add a ~23 mile option to the FEB 20 or 27 ride.

I'll chat with some of the regular riders this Saturday for feedback and get back to you.

Ken

Joan, All,

  Thanks!

We have a high interest from the Regular Riders today about the century training/century.  27 FEB will be the first training event.  We plan to add ~23 miles to the current route.  As Rob mentions in his last sentence, "It's less about strength and speed, and more about planning and building endurance with a positive mindset. Eat, drink, and ride within your limits."  So, we'll all keep this in mind as we prep for the century ride in May.

And of course, we'll have fun!  See you all on 27 FEB. :)

Comrades!

As Ken has mentioned, we will have a 60~ish miles route planned for February and March to kick off some training for the spring century. The routes will be an extension of the planned regular route. For February 27, we will add a 21 miles loop onto the end of the route. For March, the extra distance will be added into the ride as one complete route.

There is discussion of a 75~80 mile route for April, with the century in May or June, weather permitting. Also, the ride plans for March and April are done, though not 100% final. Visit the RwGPS group for a peak at what's coming - https://ridewithgps.com/groups/NCCC-Saturday-regulars

Rob,

The Regulars performed great on the MAR 19th metric training ride.  The consensus for the 80-miler is riding the De Luz Adventure on APR 16th.  Then doing the traditional NCCC Century (Lake Henshaw, Mesa Grande, etc...) on May 14th.

  Thoughts?

Ken

Ken,

I think the 80 mile De Luz followed by the Henshaw/Mesa Grande are great ideas and I expect to join the regular riders for the longer century training rides as well as the century in May.

Sean,

That's fantastic. We welcome you and any of the other Club Members to enjoy and tackle this annual challenge. To date, the training has been awesome.

Ken

The De Luz Adventure, will be a fantastic route. Kudos to whoever created it. De Luz has some of the best riding in the county so for those of you that have not done this route, it will be a treat. The route even takes some of the lesser known roads in De Luz with zero to minimal traffic, beautiful scenery, and the weather will be warm but awesome.

Yes, this is a shameless plug to join the ride:)

One word of caution, there is VERY limited water, if any, in De Luz so it is best to top off in Fallbrook just before you drop into De Luz.

Thanks to Robert and Ken.............................

Thanks for the kind words Sean. The route is a slight modification of a route Jeff Gross did years back. The weather looks pretty good for the weekend. There will be a stop in Fallbrook to top up with water. After all the climbing, we'll stop in Temecula to refuel with burgers and fries.  ;D

See you all Saturday.

Just a reminder - we roll at 7:30.

Rob,

Just a confirmation, we roll at 7:00?  BTW, I checked out the Harrah's Casino 7-11 today and all seemed well there for a solo cyclist pit stop today.

Ken

Rob,

FYI.  We're going to overlap about 4 miles of the San Diego Century.  We'll join their route in Ramona on San Vincente Road through Dye Road.  We go straight into Highland while they turn left onto HWY 67.  Most of us know to go straight but just in case...
