This is a link to a new product designed to prevent muscle cramps. I have not used the product, nor do I know much about it. But I do know from personal experience that all the electrolytes in the world do not prevent cramps for me. This product approaches the problem in a new way based on new research. It is not cheap but for anyone who experiences debilitating cramps, it might be worth trying.

"Tastes even better cold"  The little cynical side of me says this really means....Tastes horrible but if you drink it cold you can get it down.

The other muscle cramp prevention products are a couch and bag of popcorn.  ;)

Article in the WSJ July 11, 2016.  The horrible taste is the actual mechanism by which it works, according to the article.

"Nobel Prize winner Rod MacKinnon found that pungent and spicy tastes can hinder neurological misfires that cause cramps"

At $6 per each 1.7oz hotshot...too expensive for me.  I'll stick with apple cider vinegar.  (Which also tastes horrible, btw, even if cold.)

The online comments at the end of the above online article also mentioned that some people use plain yellow mustard or pickle juice.  I may keep a pack of mustard in my saddle bag and see if it works next time.

Coconut water, dried figs and tiger balm, drink one eat one and rub on the other.

I have another solution. Just ride your bike 500 miles and climb 50K ft per week. I've been known to cramp on our regular weekend rides any time it gets hot or we hit a long flat after a climb. However, my recent experience of riding more miles than I'd ever dreamed of day after day, convinced me that you just need to ride, eat and drink (anything wet) a LOT!! Never had a twitch of a cramp for two weeks :) Now all you gotta do is figure out how to take time away from work and family...

After supporting lots of events like RAAM 3 times, Spiz seems to be the common drink of choice along with lots of hills and rest. Check it out. There website has all the info.
