... and many of us don't have to go to work.  So, ride?

I'm going to have to miss this week's Sat ride because I'm working for Dave Roberts for County Supervisor. He's very bike friendly, so I got my plug in...  Anyway, I was also seriously contemplating Kelly's ride out to Hemet, so that's a no-go, too. So, in order to make up for some lost miles opportunity, I was thinking about doing Kelly's Feb 4 Mule Hill to Black Canyon ride on Monday, which includes Black Canyon. Anyone else up for that? We could do the same 8am start as Feb 4.

I might join you, but will you find the way?  Do you have a Garmin/GPS?  Without Kelly we may get lost...

Seriously, I don't see how the heck we're gonna find the way without someone who has done this before.

I've been on both the dirt sections a few times and all the paved sections many times. Plus, my attitude is, "I'm never lost." Not to worry.

Well in that case, looking forward to this ride!
Hopefully a good bunch of riders will join us.
Are you going to post ride details on the "Roadies" page?

Oh, if it rains the day before, you think there will be a "muddy" problem?

karlos

Chance of rain Sunday a.m. The last time we did Mt Soledad Variation the rain scared off most and six of us had a great ride. Both the Mule Hill track and Black Canyon will benefit from a light rain and there will be a good 18 hrs of recovery time, hopefully. I wouldn't worry about mud. Hopefully, the soft sandy spots on Mule Hill will be compacted by a little rain. I expect no problems on Black Canyon based on Kelly's Feb 4 road report. BTW, I'm riding 28mm tread on Monday. Skinny tires may not fare so well, but rider's choice.

No need (and no bandwidth) to make a special Roadies web page edit. The map on Kelly's Feb 4 post is all you need - there are only a half dozen turns on this route. Please talk it up Sat, Nerius, and I will talk it up Sunday. Between that and these posts, hopefully there will be a few adventurous souls.

For those who don't know the Sunset Dr. start, it's right behind the Chevron station across from North County Fair, where we ride under the I15 to get to and from the bike/pedestrian bridge over Lake Hodges. 8am start

I plan on riding on Monday with you guys.  See you then.

Karl,
Can you confirm that the address below is the starting point for February 20 ride?
...
Glad you asked, Isaac, as that's a bit off course (if you don't mind, I'll zap the post so others won't be confused). If you go to Kelly's Feb 4 post and blow up the image, you'll see the start on Sunset Dr, which is just east of I15 and south (across the street) of North County Fair, right where Via Rancho crosses I15. Here is a Google map link which will take you right to the start of the Mule Hill trail. There is plenty of parking back there (usually). If you have some tires fatter than 23 mm, it might be a bit easier. This should be a very nice ride, with several remote stretches without any cars - and a few stretches where we need to mind traffic, particularly from Santa Ysabel to Old Julian Hwy on 78.,
See you tomorrow - hope there are more than 3 adventurous riders - Karl

A few photos to record what everyone, save three riders, missed on President's Day.
