Pendleton isn't always safest

On Sunday, a few of us were heading South through Camp Pendleton when we came upon an accident scene. It was cleaned up and in the investigation stages, only a few vehicles remained. One of these vehicles was an NCTD transit bus. Traffic was stopped for a moment and another cyclist there commented that 3 cyclists had been hit by the bus, that it was, unfortunately, a very grizzly scene. I found some vague news reports today indicating that the bus did indeed hit three cyclist, two are in critical condition, and one has passed. The news reports did not indicate whether the cyclist died at the scene, but stated NCIS is investigating. I just heard that the cyclist that died may be a Ranchos rider.

I have in my mind this lengthy rant about how NCTD has gone downhill and we have all had encounters with transit busses, but I'll leave it for another time. If anyone does have a less than positive encounter, please use the reporting form on their website. The best info to have besides time and place is the vehicle number and route number if possible. Their customer service is crap but they do take the incident reports seriously. I would know, I've filed a few myself.

Hopefully we will be able to learn more about the incident soon. Thoughts of speedy recovery to the two survivors and a warm heart and open arms to anyone the third has left behind.
