Pedal to the Park
Help for Others ~ Fun for All
Stage 3 is Sunday May 25, 2008
Pedal to the Park (PTP) is a home-grown cycling event organized around support for Therapeutic Recreation Services and the San Diego Bicycle Coalition.  Pedal to the Park creates a peloton of able-bodied and challenged partners to celebrate the recreational and social benefits of cycling for all ages, levels and abilities.  PTP is green and inclusive.
The PTP peloton, over 300 riders strong in 2007, rides from Balboa Park to Petco Park on a variety of routes from 10 to 50 miles. Once at Petco, the participants all hit the stands for a Padres game.  After the game, it?s a short spin to complete the loop.
It?s been great fun, and it?s led directly to the Padres establishing a regular ? every Sunday - Bicycle Parking Pavilion (BPP) at Petco.  For the entire 2008 season, any Sunday cyclist will have free access to a secure bicycle-only parking area at the ballpark!
Our Benefit Partners [Non-profit 501(c)(3) qualified] are:
-   Therapeutic Recreations Services (TRS), which provides bicycling programs for people with all kinds of physical or developmental disability or challenge.
-   San Diego County Bicycle Coalition (SDCBC) working through education, legislation, and other forms of advocacy to make bicycling better in the San Diego area.
Although the primary purpose of PTP is to support fundraising and in-kind contributions to TRS and SDCBC, participants may find rewards in any or all of these ways:
-   Helping cyclists with disabilities enjoy the simple pleasures of a Sunday bike ride and ballgame.
-   The satisfaction of supporting a movement that promotes facilities and education for better cycling in San Diego.
-   Enjoying an organized ride of chosen length and intensity, along with other local cyclists.
-   A relaxed afternoon shared with friends and family at the ballpark.
-   Building the turnout of bicycles at the Bicycle Parking Pavilion so that other area businesses see the value of supporting cycling in San Diego ? as a green and healthy form of transport.
How you can make a difference and receive a reward of volunteering:
-   Be a Ride Leader or Safety Sweep.  Experienced riders can serve as cycling instructors and mentors for novice and family cyclists who sign up.
-   Captain a Tandem; support a guest stoker. Use your own tandem or one we provide, and team with a challenged stoker.
-   Ride any route, enjoy a ballgame. Help us build the peloton for PTP Stage 3.  Our goal is to add 100 cyclists from local bike clubs.
Come join us for a Pedal to the Park ? a ride to remember - on Sunday May 25th.

Clubbers - thanks for all the hits on this thread.  How about a few takers for Pedal to the Park, Sunday May 25, 2008. We will need ride leaders and sweeps for novices and families; or take a 25-50 mile workout ride during the 3-day weekend.
Cycling Sundays at Petco Park start Sunday April 6th, and every Sunday home game all season.  So, check it out and pedal to the park this summer.

I just signed up, Dave. Thanks for the reminder. Jill is coming to the game as well and could use some company, so if anyone else is on the fence, join us for this is great event. Jill and I are really looking forward to Stage 3.
