Comrades!

It is quite likely that there will be no ride leader this Saturday. We have a big project at work so I'll probably be stuck there all day trying to get things finished up. If I am unable to lead the ride, I will still stop by OCRR to put up the route slips for the group. It's a new route that combines familiar territory, so nothing out of the ordinary and no surprises.

Also, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could grab the route slips just before roll-out or after the ride, so that they are not left taped to the lamp post. I don't need them back so they can be chucked, but we need to be courteous and not leave our waste behind.

Have fun.

Robert

If the weather permits, I'll take care of the slips.

Most likely I will be riding after all!

Regardless, there are a couple things on the route that riders need to be careful and watch out for. First, at mile 8.2 we make a left on Del Dios Highway. Please note that this is not the "Del Dios Highway" that goes out to RSF. It is the frontage road, so we cross Valley Parkway and then turn. Second thing to note is the left turn on Bernardo Lane at mile 10.9. We will be heading south on Bernardo Ave. Just before the turn the road begins to curve to the right and becomes Felicita Lane. This is where we turn left, and it's almost a U-turn. Assuming I'm riding, I will try to jump ahead and then stop after the turn to help guide riders. If you miss the turn, you still end up on Via Rancho, and still need to turn left. You just have to deal with a tight section of road for a half mile or so. Also of note is that after merging onto Via de la Valle from Via de Santa Fe, if traffic is clear for a few minutes in both directions, riders can sprint to make the immediate left up the steep hill that is Via de Santa Fe to go directly to Stumps instead of having to back track on Paseo Delicias. Do this only if you have the legs for a fast up-hill sprint to jump across the road to make the turn. This is a blind section of road, so I do not advise doing this as a group when traffic is not sparse. What may seem like a break can quickly become a transit bus coming down on you at 45mph.
