Howard Garfinkel
I have now been riding with the NCCC for almost two years. I ride with the Clippers every week that I’m in town. I enjoy my new cycling friends & the camaraderie. I also enjoy the variety of routes throughout the county. I’m ready to give back to the club by serving on the board. I’m willing to help out in any way that I could. I especially enjoy planning and organizing cycling routes, and cycling trips. I also enjoy planning social events. I look forward to many more North County miles with this enjoyable group!
Jeff Gross
I am Jeff Gross, running for NCCC board membership. I have been a member for over 20 years and have led Regular rides for over 10 years. I seek this position because I like to understand the concerns and expectations of the whole membership.
Ken Chin-Purcell
I’m Ken Chin-Purcell, and I’m your current club president. As you can tell from the attached photo I’m not a big fan of wild monkeys. I do however enjoy doing projects that make NCCC better, always with an eye to improving “Camaraderie, Fun and Fitness” across the club. Over the past several years I have led efforts to develop a club logo and improve our website. I’ve also helped out with developing the last two rounds of kit and organizing our social events, in addition to being the ride coordinator for Saturday’s Clipper ride. I wouldn’t characterize myself as a hard core cyclist – a couple of rides a week is good for me.
I think my leadership style is collaborative; I prefer incremental change. I try hard to listen to members and synthesize their concerns into concrete action. For example I heard from several people that they would like to make it socially easier to move between groups, and in response I’ve reorganized how rides are presented on the website (e.g. the home page’s list of all the week’s rides) as well as enthusiastically supporting the OneClub ride on fifth Saturdays. If you’re looking more of the same I’m probably your guy. My rough plan is to be on the board a few more years and then let someone else have a turn.
Steve Fox
Hello everyone. I’m Steve Fox, a lifelong cyclist, having bought my first road bike in 1972. I am proud to say that cycling is my favorite hobby. I began cycling with NCCC in the mid-nineties, left for a time when I moved to Fallbrook, and rejoined the club in approximately 2018. In the late nineties, I was on the board of the San Diego Bicycle Club as its newsletter director for three years and was able to improve club communications by highlighting member achievements and promoting readership through a more interesting format.
From my perspective, one of the positive things that separates NCCC from other clubs is the harmony between riders, regardless of preferred rider distances.
My perspective: I believe NCCC is a good club with potential for improvement:
–there is room for additional intra club harmony, via the same startup ride times/location.
–there are many potential vendor/club discounts that could be had, thus saving club members money.
–the club deserves bike shop support, a tool that other clubs employ.
–club members should be queried as to what serves the majority of its members.
–SDBC has a wonderful Borrego Springs two day ride/camp yearly activity. This activity is an opportunity to improve cohesiveness and have fun!
As a board member, these are just some of the changes I propose to make the board more responsive to members and therefore a stronger club.
Ursula Cunneen
I have been an NCCC member since 2010 and was the ride leader along with Kevin Brickley for almost 3 years with the Long Roadies. I currently substitute as ride leader when needed (and able to ride).
